EU ECTAP organised 5th International Agribusiness Investment Forum on Poultry with the involvement of the Ministry of Agriculture, EBRD and local poultry producers

On the 4th of May 2018 the EU-funded Enhanced Competitiveness of Tajik Agribusiness Project (ECTAP) organised 5th Agribusiness Investment Forum on the development of the poultry industry in Tajikistan with the involvement of the Ministry of Agriculture, the State Unitary Enterprise on Poultry, EBRD, as well as private sector representatives and international representatives of poultry sector. The forum aimed at establishing an efficient coordination of activities among local stakeholders in the private sector, state representatives and international development organizations. ECTAP plans to launch a coordinated package of support activities to the stakeholders in this value-chain with the key aim of bridging the technological gap between Tajikistan and the most advanced countries in poultry.
The ECTAP International Agribusiness Investment Forum on Poultry at the Serena Hotel in Dushanbe, Tajikistan was opened by the Head of Cooperation of EUD Mr. MADALINSKI Maciej, Representative of Ministry of Agriculture State Unitary Enterprise of Poultry Mr. Mashokir Nazarov. This was followed by the speeches the ECTAP Team Leader, EBRD Agribusiness representative and many other representatives of local poultry producers. International companies of poultry equipment/input suppliers such as LLC Maytav, Big Dutchman, LLC Sverdlovsk spoke on what they can propose for Poultry farmers in Tajikistan. Various vital poultry topics were covered, such as future prospects of the poultry business in Tajikistan, financial and technical assistance required for development of poultry, potential needs and challenges of the sector and many others. This event will be followed by a Study Tour to Europe for local farmers and processors. Study tour will be organized in poultry to further build on the relations established and to transfer international best practices and technologies to Tajikistan.
The aim of ECTAP is to contribute to the modernization of agricultural value-chains in full coordination with the Government of Tajikistan. At the moment, the Ministry of Agriculture is actively working on the development of road maps aimed at promoting export-oriented value-chains, as well as similar plans for substituting imported products in Tajikistan, in pursuance of the Agrarian Reform Program for 2012-2020. Among the strategic value-chains selected by ECTAP is poultry. In this field, ECTAP is launching a coordinated package of support activities to the stakeholders in this value-chain. A key aim of ECTAP is to bridge the technological gap between Tajikistan and the most advanced countries in poultry.
The Forum gathered more than 200 key actors from the Tajik Government (Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Economic Development & Trade, Ministry of industry and new technology, Tajikstandard, National Bank of Tajikistan ), the donor community and the private sector. Among the participants were over 100 Tajik stakeholders active in the beef-and-dairy value chain (farmers, agro processors such as dairy companies or meat factories, input suppliers as well as food quality laboratories) as well as 20 representatives of leading international agribusinesses.
