Fourth Agribusiness Investment Forum in Tajikistan - Dushanbe, 5th of December 2017
Seizing opportunities in the Tajik beef and dairy sector
On the 5th of December, the EU and EBRD-funded Enhanced Competitiveness of Tajik Agribusiness Project (ECTAP) with the joint support of the EU Delegation to Tajikistan and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan organized the Fourth Agribusiness Investment Forum in Tajikistan. Building on the success of the Agribusiness Investment Fora in 2010, 2011 and 2012, the Forum combined general presentations on the evolution and prospects of the Tajik beef and dairy sector with workshops on specific topics and sub-sectors aiming at fostering B2B opportunities. This way, the Forum offered a platform for local actors to interact with key foreign partners and to facilitate the modernization of the beef and dairy sector in an efficient, quick and socially-inclusive manner. Conference was followed by field visits on the 6th of December where International and local agribusinesses had a chance to further discuss business opportunities.
Under the heading “Seizing opportunities in the Tajik beef and dairy sector”, the Forum aimed at promoting local and foreign investment in the beef and dairy industry and thereby contributed to ECTAP’s main objective to promote economic growth and reduce poverty in Tajikistan.
ECTAP, that has been developed and funded by the European Union (EU) in close partnership with the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), seeks to utilize this opportunity and to therefore reach the results of the project. The project is implemented by a consortium led by Frankfurt School of Finance & Management.
The Forum gathered more than 200 key actors from the Tajik Government (Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Economic Development & Trade, Ministry of industry and new technology, Tajikstandard, National Bank of Tajikistan ), the donor community and the private sector. Among the participants were over 100 Tajik stakeholders active in the beef-and-dairy value chain (farmers, agro processors such as dairy companies or meat factories, input suppliers as well as food quality laboratories) as well as 20 representatives of leading international agribusinesses.
Finally, the Forum furthermore featured an exhibition of local products (beef and dairy products and dried fruits) as well as an exhibition for agricultural machinery and processing equipment, premixes.Invitation
